Chinese Food: Beyond the Two Tables and a Bike Takeout

I cannot go a week without Chinese. Any cuisine in which you can smush up your meat veggies and carbs into one salty mouthful is good for me! However, i do sceeve the " two tables and a bike" places- (you know the ones im talking about)- So heres a list of my favorite non "two table and a bike" but not  fancy like Buddakan chinese:

1. Red Hot (Park Slope) : delivery comes in literally five minutes if you are in area
2. Chop Stixs (Bay Ridge) : they give you this complimentary cucumber salad thats delicious- great chicken with asparagus
3. Noodle House (Bay Ridge) : Best selection of cantonese soups
4. Fortune Cookie (Dyker Heights) :
5. Andy's (Brooklyn Heights) : Excellent dumplings!
6. Mr. Wonton ( Park Slope)

Secret Ingredient: Kraft Italian Dressing

Yes i sometimes cheat (when cooking ofcourse). I wont deny it. This is my go to guy: Zesty Italian. It turns a bag of farfalle pasta into a pasta salad masterpiece. It turns plain old chicken cutlets ( that i am too lazy and tired to bread and fry) into juicy grilled chicken.
Heres my recipe for a quick pasta salad:
1 lb farfalle pasta cooked al dente
1/2 cup cut up black olives
1/2 cut up roasted peppers
1/2 pecorino romano cheese
2 cloves smashed and cut up garlic
Italian Dressing ofcourse!!!

1. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl
2. Add dressing and toss well

Asiago Cheese Bagel...

After church on sundays, I look foward to breakfast. Sometimes i even find myself daydreaming about what to eat and then i quickly remember one cannot live on bread alone. However, let me tell you about the bread i definitely may be able to survive on...ASIAGO CHEESE BAGEL!!
Im real picky with my bagels, so  trust me... you gotta go to La Bagel ( 122 7th ave park slope) and get an asiago toasted with butter (my husband got it with eggs and its def not as good)

French Onion Soup Dumplings...

My favorite thing to do is to steal restaurants recipes and make them my own. Today i am going to attempt to figure out how to make  the Stanton Social's (99 stanton street NYC) signature dish- the French Onion Soup Dumpling, which may be the best appetizer i have had in a really really long time.  Not quite sure how i am going to get the soup to stay in a wonton wrapper- but i can leave you all with my delish very quick french onion soup recipe:

INGREDIENTS
Four thick slices bread ( potato/challah bread come the best-staler the better)
 1 cup dry red wine
 Two 14.5-ounce cans beef broth
 2 large sweet onions
 Mozzarella, swiss cheese or gruyere
Italian seasoning blend ( Rosemary, Tyme, Oregano)

1.    In a deep skillet, coat bottom of pan with extra-virgin olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until translucent and softened, about 15 minutes.
2.    Add the wine and bring to a boil. Pour in the beef broth, lower the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes; season with pepper.
3.    Preheat the broiler. Divide the soup among 4 ovenproof bowls, then top each with potato bread one slice of cheese (I use the rimof the soup bowl to cut out bread so it fits perfectly). Set the bowls on a rimmed baking sheet and broil until the cheese is bubbly and golden, about 1 minute.

Mezcals: Definitely Better than Fancy Fonda

My bffl has been craving Mexican lately. So last week we tried Fonda on 7th ave. Looked cute and Yelp gave good reviews. It was GROSS. Chicken tasted reheated and the guacamole had no taste and it was 10 bucks for a side of rice. So we kept it real today and got Mezcals. No Atmosphere but its inexpensive and hits the spot. And the food doesnt taste reheated.

396 5th Avenue

Giuseppinas- Same as Lucali but no Wait!!!

Awesome pizza!!! i love me some Lucali but this was def just as good and no crazy wait!! I actually thought the staff and decor was even better. Only tip- wear a bathing suit to dinner because its BLAZING hot in the restaurant.

Loki- Decent music and not completely yuppified

Went out last night to celebrate my good friends engagement!!!! Nice bartenders, good music and not completely yuppified.
